Feeling the pinch? Some HSU students note swelling class sizes

Humboldt State University students are settling in to their classes with a little less elbow room this semester as budget cuts have increased the capacity of some courses.

The difference isn't dramatic, but some students feel they are sharing classes with more students than they might have in prior years. Budget cuts have forced some courses to reduce the number of sections offered, but overall, students haven't had trouble registering for classes, said Paul Mann, senior communications officer for HSU.

Every semester there are some problems with registration, but "whatever problems we have are standard operating procedure," Mann said.

Mann said he expected there would be some overcrowding in general education courses with the latest budget cuts, but so far the effects don't appear to be overly negative.
