Logistics center in, homes out -

The company that is developing industrial property at the former Norton Air Force in San Bernardino has set its sights on land in Fontana currently zoned for residential use.

West Valley Logistics Center will be built on 190 acres at the southwest corner of Locust and Jurupa avenues, said John Magness, senior vice president with Hillwood, the Dallas-based commercial real estate broker that wants to develop the project.

"We believe the city is open to the idea and that the project will get a lot of support," Magness said. "This will created a lot of jobs, and everyone knows that the city needs jobs."

The six-building center, which Hillwood hopes to construct next year, could create 1,000 to 2,000 jobs, Magness said.

All of the buildings will be for warehouse-distribution and light assembly use. Combined they will cover about 3.2 million square feet, Magness said.
