DHL impact uncertain - Shipper's downsizing casts a pall

As LNR Property Corp. in Miami attempts to draw tenants to the Meridian Business Park in Moreno Valley, an unforeseen hurdle has presented itself that may make the location less appealing.

Global shipper DHL announced in May most of its North American air shipments will be outsourced to competitor UPS.

The announcement cast doubt on the future of DHL's shipping facility at March Air Reserve Base across the Interstate 215 freeway from Meridian Business Park.

UPS "absolutely will not" fly planes out of the DHL facility at March because UPS already has a West Coast facility at LA/Ontario International Airport, spokesman Ken Sternad told the Press-Enterprise in May.

At stake if the DHL facility shuts down are approximately 400 jobs, according to Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley.
