If soaring gasoline prices are deterring travelers from venturing into the San Bernardino Mountains, then resort promoters are willing to ease the pump pain with discounts and gasoline cards.
"So far we've booked 27 reservations linked to gas card promotion from our central reservations," said Dan McKernan, Big Bear Lake Resort Association marketing and public relations manager.
The association began offering $25 gas cards in 2003 to stimulate tourism in the mountain community. This year, the association raised the value of those gas cards to $100 for tourists booking five or more nights and $50 for three or four nights at participating lodges. The association still offers its original $25 gas card for one or two nights.
The association in April and May gave away $5,200 in Arco gasoline, compared with $2,100 last year during the same period.
