Sierra Vista High School has been the dominant wrestling team in the Montview League in recent seasons, and that didn't change this year.
The Dons, who had won the league the past five seasons, made it six for six and put together a solid performance during the league finals at Gladstone on Saturday.
Sierra Vista advanced eight competitors to the finals, won six and qualified 11 to the CIF-Southern Section Southern Division championships at Temecula Valley High School on Feb. 19-20.
"I think we wrestled well at the beginning of the season," Sierra Vista coach Tony Gonzales said. "We had younger kids this season, so I wasn't sure where we would be. But we improved on what we did last year at league finals. The kids just put it together at the end of the season."
The Dons were led by champions Adam Lopez (114 pounds), Jose Maldonado (137), James Aguilar (147), Luis Hernandez (162), Matthew Perez (191) and Jordan Tapaoan (heavyweight). Maldonado was lower-weight MVP
