PREP NOTES: Shortstop Munoz transfers from Covina to San Dimas

When rumors started swirling that Covina High School junior shortstop Mike Munoz was transferring to CIF-Southern Section Division IV champion San Dimas, it caught Saints coach Mike Regan by surprise.

Last week, Munoz made it official by enrolling at San Dimas, even though there are no guarantees he can play when the season starts next month.

For Munoz to become eligible this season, he will have to file either a hardship or change of residence transfer request with the CIF-Southern Section, then wait for a decision.

"That's between (Munoz), our athletic department and CIF," Regan said. "I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to transfers. I have no idea how this process works. But he is in our (baseball) period and is working out with the team."

Munoz, who already has given a verbal commitment to San Diego State, started at shortstop as a freshman for the Colts in 2008.
