IRWINDALE - Life is sweet, sometimes tangy and other times crisp at The Produce Place.
For nearly 30 years, what is now Charlie and Betty Herrera's Irwindale fruit store has gone from an outdoor fruit hut to a full-fledged produce hub.
Every day they serve scores of customers eager for bags of fresh fruit - from pomegranates to strawberries.
Others are thirsty for a freshly made smoothie or snow cone, or they crave a fresh fruit drink - like a red-colored concoction known there as a Vampiro. Still others are up for bionicos - a high-octane fruit cocktail.
