Chivas USA's Jesse Marsch is retiring as a player to become assistant coach to Bob Bradley on the U.S. soccer team.
The 36-year-old midfielder won three league titles and four U.S. Open Cups during 14 MLS seasons and was Chivas USA's captain for much of the past two seasons.
"I would like to sincerely thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches and supporters for the past 14 excellent years," Marsch said in a statement released by the team.
"Many people have touched my life in a very positive way, and these relationships have shaped and will continue to shape me and my family. I am excited to get started with U.S. Soccer, and I hope for continued success and support within the sport of soccer."
He made two appearances for the U.S. national team, in a 2001 World Cup qualifier at Trinidad and Tobago and a 2007 exhibition against China
