Weather-related death toll climbs to three

The death toll from the weekend's traffic accidents rose to three when the 19-year-old son of a woman who died on the 15 Freeway died later from injuries suffered in the same crash.

Merced Molina, 52, and Javier Molina Jr., both of Apple Valley, were in a a 1999 Mercury Villager that the mother was driving when it sideswiped a disabled Nissan Sentra and hit a parked tow truck in the center median of the southbound lane, just north of Highway 138.

Paramedics pronounced Merced Molina dead at the scene of the 7:20 a.m. accident.

Her husband and son were taken to a hospital. Molina Jr. died hours later at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Molina's son and husband were not mentioned in initial reports from the California Highway Patrol.

The Fontana man killed early Saturday after his vehicle was broadsided on the rain-slicked 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga also has been identified.
