California Theatre has its own state of mind

There are so many things that make the California Theatre in San Bernardino unique, it's hard to know where to start.

"Well, it's the oldest free-standing vaudeville movie house this side of the Mississippi," offers Jesse Dinkel, assistant producer for Theatre Arts International, who has managed the city-owned theater since 1997.

Opened in 1928, the architectural beauty was a site that hosted premiers to such Hollywood classics as "Gone With The Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz."

Its stage has welcomed entertainment icons including David Niven, Kirk Douglas, Doris Day and The Three Stooges.

Some remember the theater as where legendary humorist Will Rogers delivered his last performance.

In its 80-years of existence the 1,718-seat auditorium has always had something going on.

It's the only venue in the Inland Empire that can host national touring shows such as "Chicago," "Mama Mia," "Fosse," "Rent" and "Cats   Read Full Article...
