REDLANDS - Besides location, there is something else luring businesses downtown.
The Redlands Redevelopment Agency offers programs and incentives to ease the path for businesses, particularly restaurants, interested in moving to or opening in Redlands.
"We've got capacity and are prepared to offer it to the right kinds of businesses," said Redevelopment Agency Director Dan Hobbs.
In mid-2009, the city bought $1.5million worth of water and transportation credits. The credits are offered to certain businesses to help them offset water and transportation fees, which can exceed $100,000 each, Hobbs said.
"They're staggering, so if we can offset some costs, we look a little more appealing," said Redlands Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kathie Thurston.
When Measure U passed in 1997, all new developers were required to pay the cost of infrastructure - "pay its own way," Hobbs said
