REDLANDS - They waited 19 days to finish what they had started.
For 19 days the Redlands East Valley High School girls' water polo team waited and prepared.
For 19 days the Wildcats dispatched five Citrus Belt League opponents in rout after rout, maintaining the mantra that everything was geared for the rematch with Redlands High School.
And when Monday afternoon finally came, REV (24-2, 9-0 CBL) waisted no time in completing what they had started 19 days earlier.
In front of a packed pool deck that included cheerleaders, band members and everyone else who could crowd around the water, the Wildcats clinched their first CBL title in school history with a 9-5 victory over crosstown rival RHS Monday.
"Ten years they've been waiting for this," said REV first-year Head Coach Troy Delmonico. "The girls wanted it so bad. It just feels great, like a weight was lifted off our shoulders."
