District to consider new books

REDLANDS - Algebra textbooks will be the topic of discussion at Tuesday's Redlands Unified School District Board of Education meeting.

District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Sue Buster will present her department's Algebra Textbook Adoption and Implementation Plan for 2010-2011.

"We won't be making an actual recommendation until March," Buster said. "We're just walking through it with the board members. It not only has to do with textbooks, but also contains a game plan for improving math instruction in the classrooms."

Buster plans to describe why middle and high school-level algebra classes need new textbooks.

"With the budget crisis, we really looked at what we need and what we can do without," Buster said. "Our current textbooks are really meeting our needs (except for algebra textbooks).
