REDLANDS - One woman's insanity will be the topic of discussion at this year's Watchorn Lincoln Dinner.
Author and historian Jason Emerson will be the guest speaker at the 78th annual dinner and will speak of the madness Mary Todd Lincoln experienced following her husband's death. He authored "The Madness of Mary Lincoln," and other writings on the former president.
"I've had the pleasure of hearing (Emerson) before and I've heard him give this presentation," said Lincoln Memorial Shrine Curator Don McCue. "(Emerson's) presentation is a little different. He found new evidence while working on a book about Robert Todd Lincoln, Mary's only surviving child."
In the attic of a descendent of Robert Todd Lincoln's lawyer, Emerson found a trunk containing letters Mary Lincoln wrote while in an asylum about ten years after Lincoln's assassination, McCue said.
