The Chicago White Sox officially announced on Tuesday that they will be joining the Dodgers at a newly built, two-team training facility in Glendale, Ariz., next spring, ending speculation that their move from Tucson would be delayed until 2010 and that the Dodgers might have the $80 million complex to themselves for a year.
What this means for the Dodgers is, well, basically nothing.
"We are excited to have the White Sox join us in 2009," said Josh Rawitch, the Dodgers' vice president for public relations. "We have always planned for a two-team facility but were certainly prepared to operate on our own if the need arose."
The uncertainty ended when the Board of Supervisors for Pima County approved the White Sox's offer to buy out of their lease at Tucson Electric Park - a facility they have shared with the Arizona Diamondbacks since 1998 - for $5 million. That lease ran through 2012
