La-Z-Boy is about a good 'cell'

REDLANDS - For 25 years, Charles Calloway has been putting together metal assemblies for reclining chairs.

Three weeks ago, La-Z-Boy West added an exciting new task for the metal mechanism assembler from Banning: assembling components for reclining sofas.

"It makes it a little more interesting," Calloway said as he rapidly clamped together a stack of parts.

La-Z-Boy West on Tennessee Street, a division of the Monroe, Mich.-based furniture company, has been churning out reclining chairs since the company's Redlands plant was established in 1966.

The Redlands facility is the corporation's third plant. Facilities also operate in Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and Utah.

Locally, La-Z-Boy West generates $65 million in revenues, according to continuous improvement manager Ron Villanueva - adding to the $1.6 billion the corporation and its six regional plants bring in annually   Read Full Article...
