The last thing we expect to see as we drive along Hospitality Lane is a flock of ducks waddling along the pavement. But there they are, and when we see where they are headed, we have another surprise. A good-sized pond bisects the sidewalk area, filled to overflowing by a short but animated waterfall.
And we soon discover that our destination, the Outback Steakhouse, lies just beyond the very same pond, with an outdoor eating area that looks over the ducks' hangout. Indeed, a few diners are tossing bread out to the flock as we approach the restaurant.
Our mood of happy discovery continues as we settle into a comfortable booth inside the Outback and enjoy the friendly vibe. Steakhouses are making a comeback on the dining scene, although the San Bernardino branch of this worldwide chain has been in residence for a dozen years already
