Violet Dombrowski, 98

Caterina Margretta Yolanda "Violet" Dombrowski, mother of Edmund T. Dombrowski Jr. of Redlands, died Nov. 17 at her home in Inglewood. She was 98.

She was born Feb. 24, 1910, in White Tail, S.D., a small mining town near Lead, S.D., and was baptized Margretta Yolanda Muto. Her parents, Angelo Michael Muto and Margretta Gherna Muto, were born in Italy.

She was raised by her grandmother Caterina Gherna because her mother died 14 days after she was born. With her children Flora, 10, and Jack, 14, her grandmother ran a boarding house for 19 gold miners in Trojan, S.D.

In 1924, as the miners ran out of gold, Violet moved with her family moved to California and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles in 1928.
