Boykin's return gives Poly a boost off the bench

Poly High boys basketball coach Sharrief Metoyer declared Shelton Boykin out for the season a few days after he sustained a fractured right wrist Dec. 30 in a holiday tournament in Texas.

In the back of Metoyer's mind, however, there was always the confidence that Boykin - a 6-foot-5 senior shooting guard committed to Long Beach State - would somehow find a way to return.

"I was always hopeful," Metoyer said Monday.

Boykin played roughly five minutes in a 61-53 Moore League victory over Millikan on Wednesday. He scored one point, making 1 of 4 from the free-throw line and missing his two field goal attempts. Boykin played similar minutes in a 71-52 victory over Jordan on Friday, scoring nine points on 3 of 4 from the field and 3 of 5 from the free-throw line.

Metoyer said Boykin's cast came off a week ago Saturday.

"The next day he went to a couple of shooting workouts and did some ball-handling and dribbling and he was able to do it," Metoyer said   Read Full Article...
