LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State men's basketball team has had its share of adventures this season - and then some - from the free-throw line and behind the 3-point arc.
And, despite being something well short of sizzling on both fronts Saturday evening, the 49ers knocked in enough opportunities to hold off visiting Cal State Northridge in wire-to-
wire fashion, 65-51, in front of a Walter Pyramid gathering announced at 2,551.
While bringing its Big West Conference record to 5-5 and overall mark to 11-12, Coach Dan Monson's team hit seven of 20 3-pointers and 16 of 24 attempts from the free-throw line.
The Matadors (9-14, 4-6) converted just two of 14 behind the arc and 11 of 23 from the line.
It was a desperately needed victory for a team that had dropped a gut-twister in overtime at home Thursday night and will play four of its final six conference games on the road
