USC offense gets untracked in defeating Cal

USC coach Kevin O'Neill frequently bemoans his team's lack of offense. But Thursday night the Trojans scored 25 unanswered points - and still almost lost the game.

Point guard Mike Gerrity's back-to-back 3-pointers in the final two minutes propelled USC to a 66-63 victory over California in front of 7,412 at the Galen Center.

"Not even against a group of you guys in shorts here did I think we could outscore (Cal) 25-0," O'Neill told the media.

Gerrity's second 3-pointer, as the shot clock expired, gave the Trojans a 62-57 lead with 52.6 seconds remaining.

"I'll be honest, those two shots I was looking for," Gerrity said. "It's the end of the game and you need a lift. A fifth-year senior needs to step up. I kind of had my eye on the shot clock on the second one."

Cal answered back, however, as forward Theo Robertson's 3-pointer with 42.1 seconds made it 62-60. Robertson added a free throw with 10 seconds left but USC forward Nikola Vucevic made two free throws with 8   Read Full Article...
