LONG BEACH -- The great-great-grandson of famed Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky will be a guest speaker this weekend at Cal State Long Beach.
Alexey Dmitriyevich Dostoyevsky will address the Fyodor Dostoyevsky Festival at the university's Karl Anatol Center on Saturday, the second day of the two-day event. The Friday-Saturday festival honors the life and work of the renowned 19th century novelist who wrote "Crime and Punishment" in 1866 and "The Brothers Karamazov" in 1880. It begins at 10 a.m. both days, and admission is free.
Dostoyevsky will talk about, among other things, his role as Kolya Krasotkrin in the 1988 film "Boys," which is based on chapter 10 of "The Brothers Karamazov." Other guests include Igor Volgin, president of the Dostoyevsky Foundation in Moscow and a faculty member of Moscow State University. Volgin will participate in a round-table lecture about Dostoyevsky's isolation in Siberia for 10 years and the writer's philosophical views on German culture
