High gasoline prices won't keep Colin Wilson, of Corona, cooped up this weekend.
Wilson, 26, the webmaster for a small Riverside mortgage company, spends his work day in a cubicle, so he prefers to spend his holidays someplace with a better view.
"We're going to Big Bear (Lake)," Wilson explained.
He and his girlfriend aren't alone in getting away for Labor Day, but they will have fewer peers this year thanks to high gas prices and the sluggish economy.
The Automobile Club of Southern California expects more Southern Californians to stay home for the holiday, according to a release. Holiday travel within the region is expected to dip 1.4 percent compared to last year. Airline travel for Labor Day is expected to decline 3.4 percent.
Travel is considered by the Auto Club venturing 50 miles or more from home for an overnight stay.
