Measuring Up - Former Riverside King star Wise out to show he can play with anyone

IRVINE - The question, in this instance, was a bit more playful than the answer.

Fresh off his 20-point performance in Thursday's win over Long Beach State, UC Irvine power forward Eric Wise was discussing his older brother and how "he's the only person who can beat me one on one."

"Really?" responded a reporter. "Should I pass that message along to Kobe?"

"Yeah," said Wise, laughing. "I think I could hold my own."

"Well what do you think Kobe would think about that?" replied the scribe.

Answered the sophomore: "I don't know. He probably wouldn't think I'd be much of a challenge."

Not thinking Wise would be a challenge? What else is new?

Two years ago Wise was named The Press-Enterprise Player of the Year, beating out UCLA's Malcolm Lee and Florida State's Michael Snaer, a 2009 McDonald's All-American selection.
