Beaumont skater third at nationals -

Beaumont's Lindsay Davis, who had just hoped to finish among the top six, won the bronze medal in the junior ladies competition Friday at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Spokane, Wash.

Davis, 16, who was a pairs skater a year ago, placed fourth in the free skate and moved up from fifth to third overall with a two-day score of 133.97 points.

Agnes Zawadzki, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was the winner with 171.87 points, followed by Yasmin Siraj, of Brookline, Mass. (151.05). Davis had a six-point cushion over fourth-place Kiri Baga, of Duluth, Minn., who slipped from second by finishing ninth Friday.

Davis, who moved from Rialto to Beaumont about 18 months ago, said she was "ecstatic."

"I'm not going to lie. I am still in a little bit of shock," she said by telephone. "It already is the best day of my life, definitely."
