LA QUINTA - It took all the dark clouds in the sky above the Bob Hope Classic this week to really reveal the Silver(Rock) lining.

The city of La Quinta-owned SilverRock Resort was supposed to join the Classic course roster in 2006. But heavy rains the winter before exposed the new course's drainage problems and delayed its public opening and also its inclusion in the Classic rotation.

After La Quinta spent $900,000 on drainage improvements (and $4 million altogether on improving the layout overall), the PGA Tour signed off. Some of those drainage upgrades included implementing electric sump pumps, as well as a 48-inch drainage pipe to divert floodwater.

The investment paid off, big time.
