Crane, not Fowler, lifts trophy - FARMERS INSURANCE OPEN: A double bogey on 17 is a setback for Fowler, who ties for fifth place.

LA JOLLA - Rickie Fowler fulfilled the major league hype for 70 holes at the Farmers Insurance Open, hanging within a thread of the lead for much of Sunday's fourth and final round before stumbling with a double bogey on No. 17.

Not long thereafter, Ben Crane sank his final putt, a heady 1-footer, to secure the victory and avoid a four-way playoff at Torrey Pines Golf Course. The 33-year-old Oregonian shot a 13-under-par 275 to earn his first PGA Tour win.

"I did not know that I had won when it was over," said Crane, who picked up a $954,000 check for his efforts. "I didn't know what was really going on in front of me. I'm thankful that I didn't.
