If the UC Riverside men's basketball team is going to get out of the Big West cellar, the climb begins tonight when Cal State Northridge visits the Student Recreation Center. The Matadors (8-13, 3-5 Big West) are in seventh place in the conference but are coming off a big win over UC Santa Barbara. Northridge has defeated the Highlanders 11 straight games and held UCR scoreless for the final five minutes of last month's 64-50 loss at Northridge. UCR (8-13, 2-7) has lost four consecutive home games and has dropped 10 of its past 12 overall. The Highlander women's team (8-13, 5-3) concludes its three-game road trip at Northridge (3-15, 1-7). UCR split the first two games with a loss at UC Davis and a victory Saturday at Pacific to move into third place in the Big West.
