UCR not ready for spotlight - PACIFIC 72 UC RIVERSIDE 57 On national TV, against the best, it's another miss.

RIVERSIDE - UC Riverside's first appearance on national television had all the makings of a season-changing afternoon.

The Student Recreation Center was packed and boisterous, with several students painted in blue and yellow and sporting signs. The band was in full force, and the Highlanders were primed for the opportunity to turn their season around by knocking off Pacific, the Big West leader.

But it didn't take long to see that wouldn't happen.

Instead, it looked a lot like a dozen other days, where the Highlanders struggled to score and a good opponent didn't hesitate to take advantage of that ineffectiveness.

"We had a big opportunity in front of us today, and we didn't step up to the challenge," senior guard Sean Cunningham said after a 72-57 setback. "We let it slip through our fingers."
