Gordon helps UCR men beat UC Irvine -

IRVINE - The UC Riverside Highlanders ended a losing streak Saturday night, and along the way they may have discovered some things about themselves.

Kyle Austin learned, for example, that he doesn't have to do it all himself.

UCR roared away from UC Irvine at the end of what had been a nip-and-tuck game, scoring the final eight points of a 65-56 triumph that ended a five-game Big West losing streak.

Austin, the Highlanders' go-to guy, finished with 18 points, 16 of them in the second half. Included were maybe the most important two points of the night, a jump-hook with 1:01 to play that gave the Highlanders a 59-56 lead.

But he wasn't UCR's leading scorer, for a change.

That honor went to Dwight Gordon, a junior guard from Fontana by way of Victor Valley Community College. Gordon scored 13 of UCR's 24 points in the first half and finished with 19, including a critical drive with 3:04 left   Read Full Article...
