Bruins sneak into 4-way tie for first - UCLA 77, STANFORD 73 Freshman Honeycutt helps the revival of a team that many had given up on.

LOS ANGELES - After a slew of injuries, a five-game losing streak and the defection of one of its top players, the UCLA basketball team is now in a position few thought possible after such an inauspicious start: first place in its conference.

The Bruins joined Arizona State, Arizona and California in a four-way tie for first in the Pac-10 after beating Stanford, 77-73, Thursday at Pauley Pavilion.

"Here we are in first place," said senior Michael Roll. "Big game on Saturday (against Cal). We're believing."

Few believed in the Bruins early in the season. After winning its Pac-10 opener against Arizona State, the Bruins dropped three of their next four, the most embarrassing being a 21-point blowout to rival USC. But the Bruins have transformed themselves, winning four of the past five to get to .500 (11-11).
