Cal ready for Bruins - CAL 72, UCLA 58

LOS ANGELES - When this long UCLA season comes to an end, the Bruins might look back to their first game against Cal -- a win! -- in January as the highlight of the year.

The Bruins also might wonder how they managed to pull that off.

Saturday, in the return game at Pauley Pavilion, the gap between the two was painfully obvious. The Golden Bears simply turned on their A-game when necessary and handled UCLA, 72-58.

There was a reason Cal was picked to win the Pacific-10 Conference title, and the Bruins were not.

"I'm not going to stand here and say we're the best team in the Pac-10," said Cal senior Patrick Christopher, whose team has underachieved its way to a 7-4 conference mark, but still good enough for first place.
