Bruins' poor play hurts Howland -

ANAHEIM - John Wooden, one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history, author of the "Pyramid of Success," winner of 10 national championships and aficionado of good basketball, watched Saturday from a luxury box at Honda Center as his former team suffered yet another embarrassing loss.

A 72-54 drubbing at the hands of Mississippi State dropped UCLA to 2-6. It was the Bruins' fifth straight loss. And from the sideline, UCLA's current coach maintained the pained expression of a man who can only do so much.

"It really hurts me that he was here today and we played so poorly," Ben Howland said of Wooden, who presided over the 16th annual John R. Wooden Classic. "I just don't want to disappoint Coach Wooden, and I feel we've done that."
