Defense key for SBVC men -

SAN BERNARDINO - The newly anointed No. 1 junior college team in the state looked anything but on Wednesday night. Missed layups, missed dunks and a barrage of missed free throws left the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team scrambling late in a key Foothill Conference game against rival Mt. San Jacinto.

But in the end, the one thing that really worked for the Wolverines was their defense and that was all that mattered to Coach Quincy Brewer.

"You have to look at the whole body of work," Brewer said following SBVC's 75-68 win. "I'm very happy with the defense."

SBVC (23-2, 9-0) built a 13-point lead in the first half as both teams were sloppy and had problems finding the basket. The Wolverines entered as the top scoring team in the state at 88 points, and it appeared this one would be a good matchup with the Eagles (17-7, 6-3), who were second in the Foothill and trying to rebuild their team around defense   Read Full Article...
