Lancers go from hunter to hunted - SOFTBALL: No. 1 Cal Baptist returns all but one starter from the school's first national title team.

RIVERSIDE - The shelf reserved for a national championship trophy in the California Baptist softball team's locker room is no longer empty.

After years of coming close, the 2009 Lancers powered their way to a school-record 61 wins and swept through the national tournament, finally earning Cal Baptist its first NAIA title, the shiny trophy now on display for all to see.

The bare shelf was a perfect motivational tool, a visual reminder of what was missing from a program that had been among the nation's best, but not the best.

So what does Coach Mike Smith have up his sleeve this year to motivate a team that enters the season ranked No. 1 and may even be better than last year's championship squad?
