West needs first title to keep her promise - David A. Avila

As a girl in pigtails, Kaliesha West promised her father, a boxing trainer, that she would fight for a world title.

"Bank on me dad," said West at the age of 10. "I won't let you down."

That was nearly 12 years ago, and now the Moreno Valley prizefighter is about a month away from that goal.

West (11-1-1) signed to fight former world champion Anita Christensen (24-1) on March 26 for the vacant WBO bantamweight title. The bout will be in Christensen's home country of Denmark.

"I want to fight for Denmark," said West, who feels appreciative for that country's willingness to invite her to fight. "I'm a very humble and appreciative person. I'd never take such an opportunity like this for granted."

That's West. No good deed goes unnoticed.
