Ankle keeps Bryant from practice -

EL SEGUNDO - Kobe Bryant didn't hit the practice floor Thursday, staying in the Lakers training room for treatment on his sprained left ankle.

Will he be ready tonight when the Lakers face the Denver Nuggets, who at 33-16 are second in the Western Conference behind the Lakers (38-12)? After a season-low five points Wednesday in 37 minutes as mostly a passer who couldn't elevate on his shot, do the Lakers shut him down to let his ankle heal?

"It occurred to me yesterday (to sit him against Charlotte) even though I told him he played well," coach Phil Jackson said. "He kept our offense running."

"He's working on it," Jackson said. "I'm sure he wants to play."

"Nobody's like Kobe," Ron Artest said. "If there's a way, he'll be back. But I'll let Kobe answer that."
