Oyler's fiancee testifies that she doesn't recall telling authorities about '06 conversations -

Raymond Lee Oyler's fiancee testified Monday that the arson and murder defendant told her he was setting fires in 2006 to make it appear that the blazes were set by relatives seeking custody of Oyler's 2-year-old daughter.

Oyler, 38, is charged with setting the October 2006 Esperanza Fire that began in the San Gorgonio Pass and moved up the San Jacinto Mountains, killing five federal firefighters when it swept over them as they defended a home near Twin Pines.

Oyler faces the death penalty. He also is charged with setting 22 other fires, most with arson devices made of wood stick matches and cigarettes. The Beaumont mechanic has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
