Cedar Glen fire debris removal program to begin -

San Bernardino County supervisors approved agreements with contractors on Tuesday to begin a program to clear debris remaining in Cedar Glen from the Old Fire of 2003.

Property owners in the San Bernardino Mountains community, who received notices last week, will have until the end of this week to decide whether to arrange for the removal of debris themselves or use one of the county-hired contractors.

Supervisor Neil Derry, who represents the area and proposed the clean-up program, is holding a forum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Arrowhead Elementary School, where licensed contractors and county code enforcement and building and safety officials will be available to answer questions.

Out of 323 homes destroyed in the fire, only about 40 have been rebuilt. The remains of burned homes are still standing on many lots, including walls and chimneys.
