Within two hours Monday morning, 194 Banning children received the H1N1 flu vaccine.
It was administered in the form of a nasal spray at Central Elementary School.
This was the first time the Riverside County Department of Public Health conducted an H1N1, or swine flu, vaccine clinic at a school. Another will be held today at Hoffer Elementary School in Banning, followed by a third clinic Friday at Hemmerling Elementary School, also in Banning.
A clinic also is scheduled for Wednesday at a Coachella Valley school.
The Department of Public Health plans to hold H1N1 vaccine clinics at schools and child care centers countywide as it receives more shipments of the vaccine. Banning was the first school district to volunteer for the clinic, according to the department.
Assistant Superintendent Gordon Fisher said the district is trying to prevent a flu outbreak.
The vaccine is administered on a volunteer basis, and parents have to provide a release form
