New trial date set in pitcher's death -

A new trial date has been set for the former Riverside man charged with driving drunk and causing a crash that killed Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard Toohey previously set a Nov. 9 trial date for Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, to face charges of second-degree murder and drunken driving.

During a pre-trial hearing Friday, the trial was rescheduled for April 19, 2010, said spokeswoman Farrah Emami with the Orange County district attorney's office.

The trial date was changed because last month Gallo's private attorney, Randall Longwith, asked to be taken off the case and a public defender was appointed.

The April 9 crash in Fullerton killed Adenhart, 22, and two friends of the pitcher: Cal State Fullerton student Courtney Stewart, 20, and law student Henry Pearson, 25. Passenger Jon Wilhite is recovering from injuries at his parents' home in Murrieta.
