Former San Bernardino County assessor served in county's civil lawsuit -

Former San Bernardino County Assessor Bill Postmus was officially served Wednesday with the county's civil lawsuit against him and five others.

The action came as Postmus waited to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court for a hearing related to his January arrest on suspicion of drug violations.

Shortly after 8 a.m. as he spoke with a reporter in the hallway outside a fourth-floor courtroom in Superior Court, a process server handed Postmus a copy of the lawsuit and told him he had been served.

Postmus said he had expected the action.

The county is suing Postmus, who resigned in February, along with four former assessor's employees and a consultant who worked for Postmus.

The lawsuit seeks to recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars for work that an internal investigation concluded they were paid for but never did.
