In the classic German legend from the Middle Ages, Faust sells his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge.
In 1954, author Douglass Wallop published his novel, "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant," and in 1955 it hit the Broadway stage as "Damn Yankees."
In 1958, it was made into a movie starring Gwen Verdon, Tab Hunter and Ray Walston.
The Temecula Valley Players bring the characters to the stage at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater for eight performances starting Friday.
Sean Tamborino, who performed in the Temecula Valley Players production of "Scrooge" last December, makes his directing debut with "Damn Yankees."
Tamborino, 36, is the musical director for Princess Cruises and is a vocal coach with a studio in Carlsbad.
He also spent six years with Disney in Anaheim, Tokyo and Orlando, FlaTamborino said "Damn Yankees" is a favorite. He has performed in two productions, once as Smokey and once as a ballplayer
