A Cal State branch's startup efforts in Temecula got a boost from the City Council on Tuesday night.
The council agreed to spend $115,000 in redevelopment funds for improvements to Cal State San Marcos' Temecula center. The university will operate in a Tierra Alta Way office building.
City officials have been working to bring the university to Temecula to enhance the city's higher-education offerings. Fifty-four students are enrolled for the Temecula center's nursing program, which has a waiting list of 300.
City staff is helping to set up the Temecula Higher Education Foundation, which will raise money for a permanent San Marcos campus in Temecula.
While the foundation will seek private donations for the permanent campus, right now the center needs money to add classroom and laboratory space, said Matthew Ceppi, the university's director of institutional planning and analysis.
