A bronze plaque in a Temecula park pays tribute to a volunteer who became the first director of the city children's museum.
Margaret "Maggi" Allen, who died in 2005 of a heart attack at age 55, was honored with the plaque in Sunset Park during a dedication ceremony earlier this year.
The plaque, paid for with a few thousand dollars in private funds, looks like an open book. The two pages call attention to Allen's accomplishments.
"She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She made this city a better place by giving selflessly," it reads.
Allen's husband, Steven, and her mother, Eve Craig, wrote the plaque's inscription.
Herman Parker, Temecula's community services director, said the plaque was requested by residents who wanted something by which they could remember Allen.
Sunset Park, on Camino San Jose, is next to Red Hawk Elementary School, making the memorial's location all the more appropriate, Parker said
