A wildfire south of Vail Lake burned about 100 acres by Monday evening in the Cleveland National Forest, resulting in minor injuries to two firefighters, authorities said.
One of the firefighters was treated at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital for treatment, a Riverside County fire news release stated.
At the scene, Battalion Chief Glenn Patterson of the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, said he did not expect the Vail Fire, which was burning in steep rugged terrain, to be fully contained until Wednesday morning.
It was 40 percent contained by Monday evening, the release stated.
The fire was reported after 3 p.m. south of Highway 79 near Vail Lake Road, according to a Fire Department news release. Lower Highway 79 was shut down between Pauba and Sage roads.
As of about 8 p.m., 320 Cal Fire/Riverside County and U.S. Forest Service firefighters, six air tankers, four helicopters and 33 engines were battling the blaze
