Inland Koi Society brings fish fans together -

Floating entertainers, family pets, a large investment -- koi fish represent all of these to enthusiasts.

The colorful Japanese fish dwell in garden ponds of pet owners who spend big sums on constructing specially suited habitats.

"Koi keepers enjoy the beauty and serenity of their koi," said Gene Maingot, president of the Inland Koi Society, which will have a free general meeting Sunday in Temecula.

The meeting will take place in Temecula from 3 to 6 p.m., and it will feature an educational talk, a meal and a raffle.

The educational component of the meeting is important because "so often people build a pond or two before seeking help from a koi club, resulting in a loss of time, money and probably fish," Maingot said.
