Perris man arrested on suspicion of killing co-worker -

A Perris man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of shooting his co-worker in the head last week and leaving the body along a mountain road in San Bernardino County, authorities said.

Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department contacted 27-year-old Fidel Beltran on Tuesday at a home construction site in Temecula where he was working, said Sgt. Frank Bell. After interviewing him at the station, investigators arrested Beltran on suspicion of homicide.

Sheriff's deputies found the body of Baraquel Alonzo Cruz, 54, of Perris, on the evening of Aug. 13 lying in the open along a forest road in Lytle Creek, a mountain community north of Fontana and Rialto.

A passer-by had called about 7:30 p.m. from a pay phone at the am/pm convenience store on Sierra Avenue at Interstate 15 to report seeing the body, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
