A union representing about 800 employees at three Valley Health System facilities is asking members to authorize a one-day strike if future talks fail to reach what the union considers a fair compromise for workers.
"We don't want to strike obviously. ... We don't want to put VHS (Valley Health System) in a position where they have to bring in scabs," or temporary workers, said Alex Espinoza, lead representative/organizer for SEIU-United Healthcare Workers-West.
Union members will vote today and Friday. A strike date would not be set unless attempts to reach a compromise fail, Espinoza said.
The union represents most district employees, except for nurses at Hemet Valley Medical Center, who belong to the California Nurses Association
