With talk of implementing a drug-testing program for San Bernardino County's top managers and elected officials entering its second week, Supervisor Josie Gonzales said Tuesday she hoped the various suggestions could be consolidated into a single effort.
Widespread deliberation was ignited last week when Treasurer-Tax Collector Dick Larsen publicly suggested a random, mandatory drug-testing program for the county's leadership.
The county's lawyers said the idea was unconstitutional.
But Larsen, keeping the subject alive, called for voluntary testing. Several supervisors countered with their own comments and concerns.
Since then, all five members of the board of supervisors voluntarily have taken drug tests and made the results public. All tested drug-free, county spokesman David Wert said.
